The Story
The home for Christmas Concert began in 1998 as Monte Ingersoll released his Christmas album "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Monte was invited to perform at Central Church in Richland and the concert was standing room only for many years.
Monte has always invited many of his musical friends to perform and the artists that have performed through the years have included: Dave Carpenter, Scott Ryan, Michelle Sanders, Kennewick High Madhatters, Pasco Highs 10th Avenue Singers, Bobby Keefe, Al Brower, Doug Norman, Caleb Ingersoll, April DeCock, JC Vocal Band, Mike Stopher (Salem, OR) Tim Goertzen (Salem OR), Jodi Moore, Randi Bonnell, Paul Francik, Brenda DeCock, Jackie Warwick, Jessica Winje, Frank & Debi Eng, and his long time friend Mel Haug.
In 2007, after a two year hiatus following Monte's move back to the Tri-Cities, the Home for Christmas concert returned to its place as part of the Tri-City Christmas tradition and took place at The Living Room Community Church where Monte is one of the pastors. Since 2007, the Home for Christmas concert has grown in attendance and last year had an attendance of 1400 people through 4 shows.
The proceeds from the Home for Christmas concerts have provided an opportunity to give back to the people of the community through community organizations.
The vision for the concert has grown and 2009 marks a change in venue with an even greater community emphasis. The Home for Christmas event will be held at The Toyota Center (Sunday, December 20, 2009) in the Windermere Theatre.
This years concert promises to bring a new way to celebrate Christmas to the Tri-Cities. It begins at 5:00 pm with an old-fashioned hot dog roast around fire pits in front of the Toyota Center with Christmas music playing and a visit from Santa. It is all free thanks to Snyders bakery and Templemans for providing an opportunity for families and friends to enjoy Christmas around the fire.
The concert begins at 7:00 pm and will resemble the Andy Williams Christmas specials of old. A Winter Wonderland scene sets the scene for this musical extravaganza.
